The Drygand is the Shifter

The Drygand* is the Shifter, and the Wyrdhebora*. With his Siden* he can shift the mind forthward. His Seed-swarm* can drench to the marrow of bone and skull, and once loaded, the Deep Mind there is made anew. And the self becomes the Self, the mind the Edhli-mind*. The Immynd* is yoked to the Edhli-wereld*. And as the Drygand is the Alf-kyning*, one becomes a Drygandalf, a wyrdhebora oneself, in thaneship to the Edhli.

*Drygand= the Pan-chimera, the avatar of the Edhli-mind, bearer of the Lodestone, King of the Alfar, and Guardian of the Edhli. Old English 'dry'= magic (<'druid'?). Old Norse 'gand'= magic thing or being.

*Wyrdhebora= agent of evolution (human).

*Siden= magical power to influence. Old English 'aelfsiden'= elvish influence. (~Old Norse 'seidhr'(?)= a form of magic.)

*Seed-swarm= a swarm or fume of 'samen', the vital fluid. German 'Samen'= seed.

*Edhli-mind= the mind of Living Nature. Old Norse 'edhli'= Nature.

*Immynd= the Imagination. Old Norse 'imyndan'= imagination.

*Edhli-wereld= the Biosphere.

*Alf-kyning= King of the Alfar (Elves).

The Drygand as a Tree

Picture a stick figure of a man, with arms spread upward, crooked at the elbow; legs spread, like a mirror image of the arms. The short lines for feet are canted down a bit as if toe-grasping the soil; those for hands canted up as if receiving the sunlight. This is the Drygand, the Pan-chimera. He is like a tree: rooted in the earth, boughs held up to the sky. He is the Tree of Life, the 'tree' of all living things, which in reality is spread over the Earth, in the waters' deeps, and where land meets sky: the Biosphere.

The Deepster

The Deepster is one who has gone Deep.

Deep into the Deepness of Reyndom (reality), where the two reyndoms become One-- the reyndoms of Edhli-orgyte (Nature-manifest) and of the Inner Mind, bemesh and weld-bond.

Which is how it was, and should be. Then the Edhli lives again in the Heort, in the weird light of the Immynd (imagination)-- it is the Twy-rymet (twofold Space) where the Drygand stalks, in the rune-mists of the Wolken (cloud of being) that curl and fold among the life-kinds of the Eormen-walden (vast forest), which is the Life-Trew (world tree) spread round the Eorth.

There is great might and maegisch (magic) in this Inner-Outer, of the Eormen-sule (great soul). It is the Trew-wereld (true/tree), the Twy-rymet of Halor (balance-salvation).

Seek this Deepness, and find it!

We are all caught in the Searuvel (evil machine). From our birth its fingers seep into our growing minds, and grows its meshes in them, and we become thralls in its Lugen-wereld (false world). As the Searuvel shapes and grips our minds, we can no longer freely feel, we cannot see, but as the Searuvel means us to-- we are forlost in its trammels.

But some young minds yet hold enough of what they were at birth, so when they get the Alf-seeding, they hear the Alf-call. And this strengthens the trewth in the marrow of their minds and bones, that lies like a winter-sleeping wight, mayhap, until it is woke. The Sleeper then may feel, though he be wrapped in fogs of sleeping, that something needful is missing, has been lost, or feel the clangor of the Searuvel as harsh and empty of sowel. This comes oftmost at the waking to one's manhood, when the tide of life courses full, and lifted thus, one feels, one sees, one seeks for what has gone lost.

The Deepness then calls--Come back! Come into your own!

And one cannot then but struggle with the wirring (confusing) fogs of the Searuvel, to find one's trew Self, and the trewth of Life. And one becomes a fledgling Kynecht (knight), going into the Deepness on Findal-seech (quest). And if one wins through to the great Finding, where two werelds become One-- Ah! then the Drygand steps forth, with his fellowing Alf-kynechts, Deepsters all!

And then the tale begins.

Medu-symbel

About the great Targ-bord (round-shield table) in the Halidom Hall, the Adhel-alfs (noble Alfs) are gathered in Medu-symbel (mead-banquet). The heort of this Targ-shield is its boss, a swelling Samen-stone that glows like a glede (hot coal), but of the grenegold fyre.

The shaggy Alf-thanes are sat about the Bord-rim, each in talk with his neighbor, while knaves bear jugs of mead to birl (pour) into each one's bune (goblet), filling it to over-run with thick, frothing mead of Samen-flowod (Soma). And when this is done, one Alf-kynecht (knight) stands and fills the Hall with words that tell of who they are: menn who, once Guman, now are Half-alfen, having undergone the Cherrenge (change), and got the Fraedhing (enlightenment). They now see full and clean that Gumenn make War on the Edhli-verden (Nature-realm) of our holy Feorgen, the Life-mountain that is this island Eorth. They make war on all Life-kinds in everything they do now, making the Dilgoth (the Extinction Event), and so Eydhsla (the Wasteland) for endless time. The Speaker then says: the Alfar only, menn who have the Deep Edhli-mynd (Nature-consciousness), can hope to end this Eydhslaughter, this Dilgoth, and bring again Eorth-wela (Earth-weal). The Gumar, now thralls to the Searuvel, the Evil Machine they have made, will be fought by Alf-siden (alfish influence) that tames and draws the Guman mind toward Fraedhing, and the Cherrenge. They raise the Drygand (All-wight) banner of the Edlifrith Sake (Nature-peace cause), to turn the Guman War on the Edhli to the raising of Edhli-mynd with the Wodhe (inspiration,~Awen) that makes Deepness, forshaping (transforming) the greedy Skadhe-mynd from wan-wit (folly) to heort-wisdom and Edhli-frith, so that at last the Edhli-menning (ecological civilization) can over-well and dwell about the Feorgen, to let heal the Wasteland, so that Eorth-wela can grow and the Neorxna-alden (Ever-freshening Age) can begin.

At this, all who are gathered rise, their heorts welling, and hold forth their welling bunes toward the glowing Samen-stone, and, like to like, the bubbling Mead begins to glimmer grenegold, and an out-cry arises: "Let us drench the Wereld in Wodhe! For the Edhli! Through Edhli-mynd to the Edhli-menning!"

And they roar, and they quaff the Living Mead, and drench themselves in Samen-wodhe, and feel the selly Woone (wondrous Life-ecstacy), in sameheortness and body-bliss.

The Shaggy Mythos

What does this mean, Shaggy Mythos?

I chose 'shaggy' because it implied a pagan wildness, like a shaggy pelt or shaggy locks or beard.

I chose 'mythos', which is a Greek word, instead of a germanic equivalent, because 'mythos' is fairly familiar. Mythos in the sense of 'a body of mythology' I could express as 'sagenverden' (a realm(literally 'world') of myth). But as 'a culture's lore or learning', I use 'froedhi' (knowledge, learning, lore), and thus Lodhin-Froedhi (Shaggy Mythos). As cosmology or Weltanschauung (worldview), I would use 'Wereld-bysen' (model of the world). Anthony F. C. Wallace's concept of 'mazeway', which I've just learned of, means about the same, and it is germanic, besides. The problem with coining germanic equivalents is that you can usually think of different ways to express different senses of the original, or even of one sense. Then, I go with what feels best. I don't want to invent a new language or write a dictionary for it, but I try to come up with germanic terminology, and otherwise I'm pretty obsessive about using good Anglo-Saxon words in my 'sacred' utterings, instead of French/Greco-Latin ones. This form of English-plus I call Eormennish, 'eormen' meaning 'awesome-great'; it's an Old English cognate of 'irmin' as in Irminsul, the Saxon tree-idol that Charlemagne destroyed to open the way for mass Christian conversion, and of 'jormun' as in Jormungand, the Norse world-girdling sea-wyrm.

But as to the Mythos itself? Well, there's a great deal of it now after years of working on it. As I said, it isn't in story form, like with mythology. It's more like a sacred cosmology, and you could say it's my attempt at 'mazeway resynthesis'-- creating a new, ecological culture-civilization, the Edhli-menning (Nature civilization) to replace our current exterminist one, the Searuvel (evil machine), but in mythic terms, and according to my personal sensibilities, because that's what an artist does. The material is either described or expressed as an evocation in Eormennish, and it's meant to work like a spell to inspire consciousness-transformation ('to wodhen wotness-wending'), or, the Conversion (the Cherrenge).

But the Froedhi can best be exposed a little at a time, can't be hurried. And there's no end to it, as long as I'm around, because it's a wyrdhing (an evolving thing).

First Post

Hello and welcome. My name is Shtrahler and I've been working on the Shaggy Mythos for four years now. It is not mythology, with stories, but rather a fantastic cosmology expressed in evocative 'sacred' language; in English, but with much vocabulary or coinages from germanic languages such as Old and Middle English, Old Icelandic, and modern German. Sometimes it sounds like slogans, or creedal formulas-- meant to inspire, or to encapsulate deep-ecological ideation. Sometimes I just write a description such as this one. Because there is so much incomprehensible vocabulary, I give definitions, and eventually, I must figure out how to provide a glossary for you. At present, my internet skills are rudimentary and I must improve them for all our sakes. Please have patience with any wretchedness I make in my improving efforts.

I'll give you a few examples. Ecology is Edhlifrith, which means literally "Nature-peace". The Ecology symbol is Edhlifrith Takn. The Ecology movement is Edhlifrith Sake.

I'll give you a little cosmology: "The Drygand is the Allwight of the Edhli-reach of Eorth". The Drygand (literally "magic magical thing") is the pan-chimera or Allwight from Old English Aelwiht/Ealwiht, which means "strange creature, monster", but as Ealwiht literally means "All-wight": a being combining all species of life on Earth (Eorth). The Edhli-reach is the Biosphere. This kind of language is cumbersome to explicate and no doubt taxing to try to understand, but for me, this is powerful language, and I will try to impart the wodhenness (inspiring character) of it in my posts. I might use some help on this.

Well, I'll think on the best ways to introduce the Mythos, and try to familiarize myself with blog-wereld, and hope to post again soon.
