The upwending of the Sun with the start of Yule marks a new turning of the Sun-wheel as the new year is born, for Yule Day is New Year's Day.
And the tide from the Yule-turning unto NearSun Day (Perihelion: Jan 4, 2014; 6:59 AM EST) is called Summer-in-Winter, for the Sun ever-rising in the sky pulls GreneSun up from its winter-home in the evergreen Otherworld and it blazes as "Light-at-Night, when the Otherworld of the Deep and This-world meld; and for this while, the Menning shines forth within everything like a lovely many-hued Seeing, like a sky-broad Cloud-land lit from within, borne on a luft of glad rynisch music. And this is what makes the Yule-tide such a gladsome time of Hope for the Tocume.
wend= to turn.
Tide= a space of time.
Perihelion= when the Earth is closest to the Sun.
rynisch= mystical, ineffable.
Tocume= the future, the 'time to come'. Ger. Zukunft.

The Deeper Meaning of the Yule-tide
Winter Solstice (Sunwend) represents a turning of fortune, when the lowering of the noon Sun in the sky and the lengthening of night-time at the expense of Day both come to a stop and then reverse; though even so, a long Winter still lies ahead. And like this turning of the tide of the Year-wheel, the ever mightier Searuvel, wreaking Dilgoth, begins to lose the allegiance of Mankind, its grip on the collective mind and culture falters, and humanity starts to awake from the Dark Spell-- though much has been inflicted that cannot be undone, and a long and terrible tide yet lies before us. But there is still a light of Hope, for the sacred Biosphere, and for Man, in this tide-turning, this Cherrenge come upon the Earth.
Searuvel= the Evil Machine.
Dilgoth= the Extinction Event.
Cherrenge= the great conversion to ecological mind.
Searuvel= the Evil Machine.

Jolly Yule!
Yule Eve this year is Friday, December 20. Yule Day arrives Saturday the 21st at 12:04 AM EST, so that in time-zones further west it would arrive on the 20th. And in successive years the calendar day on which Yule arrives varies. So there's something too fussy about observing the yearly turn-about from the Sun-at-noon lower in the sky each day with the day-length growing shorter, to the opposite. For the ancients this change-over to the better, promising the inevitable arrival of Spring even though it was now the depth of cruel Winter with much more, and maybe worse, to come, was a cause for celebration ("Fear not, it won't last forever. Rejoice!"). So a feast-day was held, after frank acknowledgement of one's wretched entrapment in fell Winter's grip, which called for strength of heart to endure the Long Cold yet ahead. That having been said, to buck everyone up a raid was mounted on the winter stores, even though they must last well into Spring to keep off starvation, to mount a defiant jolly Yule-feast to celebrate, help on, the waxing of the Sun, the coming triumph of Day and Light and Warmth, with time-honored offerings made to the Lord Ing, patron God of Good Things, and also to the elvish wights who assist him, to acknowledge their care and aid by sharing with them the bounties of the feast.
The Norse celebrated Yule for the twelve days after Yule Eve, which unbeknownst to them would then last about til Perihelion, when the Earth is closest to the Sun in its orbiting; so, another solar festival. The Anglo-Saxons called the months bracketing Yule "Early Yule" and "Later Yule"; in sum, the "Yule-tide". And so maybe Yule should be celebrated with a jolly, hopeful state of mind not tied down to calendar dates, though it is good to have that drama at the precise time of change-over from the decline of the Sun to its rise again, like a Midwinter sun-rise at Stonehenge. It's nice to have traditions to observe, but since the Yule-tide is now dominated by the Christian holiday and its elaborate Christmas culture, maybe each of us should celebrate the original pagan nature-festival as suits us best, drawing on what we know of the Yule observances of the Northern folk, and whatever of what for a Deep Ecologist seems fitting from the generally horrid commercial and religious campaign surrounding Christmas that dominates the season. As for the "deeper" meaning of Yule, more later.
By the way, the famous etymologist Walter M. Skeat linked "Yule" (Old English "geola", Norse "jol") with "jolly" (from Norse to Norman-French?) and with "yowl", all connoting festivity. So, at four minutes after midnight (or whatever), be out there with your pack yowling "Jolly Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuule!".

The Wild God Remade
Unpredictable, scary-wondrous, mysterious, awesome-- the Wild God Pan, of whom it was said two thousand years ago,"The great god Pan is dead!"-- vast Pan, God of Nature, now reborn after two thousand years. He is back, "the Once and Future God", the Self of Psyche and Nature where the two meet, recalled, revived, by the Peril of All Life on Earth, transformed by the Idea of Ecology, remade with intelligent purpose to drive him-- the Drygand!

Cunning-Kings
When the Twayne gave the Lodestone in to the Alwight's head, it bore the natures of the both of them-- of Wildiar the cunning-man, and of Bilwit the sacred king. And when the Alwight had become thus Drygand, he gave the Lodestone also in to each of them, it bearing his nature, as the Cunning-King, of All Lifekind. And so each one was himself and both and Drygand.
And then from the Twayne was born Hal Twayneson, bearing both their new natures as his own, and as such, Hal the Erf, Cunning-King, and Bairnaborn of the Drygand.

The Work You Must Work
The Work you must work: to help the Wyken-Self (ecological Self) to orgyte (manifest), as Drygand and his Menning.
The Drygand calls from the Deep, to be brought in to the World by you. Wait heedful on the threshold of the Deep Mind, and the Deep Mind will come to you. Talk together with the Deep, and between you, the Wyken-Self will wax and wyrdhe (evolve), and you will become Wykewise. And the Drygand will then arise, bearing his Lodestone within him, the Living Seed of the Menning, and he will gift it on you, that you may bring it out into the World, for All of Life, to herald the Coming of the Drygand, and his Menning.

God of the Age of Ecology (Wykewisen Alder Teev)
The Regin of Onbiding (archetypal forces for survival) lie buried in the Deep Mind, as they are not wanted by Men, who live in thrall to the Searuvel (Evil Machine) they have unloosed, as the Dilgoth (Extinction Event) gathers to overwhelm the Wyke (Biosphere).
But the Wolken (primordial Nature Mind) from her Web has woven a Byzen (pattern, model), and laden it with Weald (Power). And this Lodestone has come to make the new Teev of the Alder of Wykewisen. And in this WykenSelf (the Ecological Self), this Drygand, the Regin of Onbiding are melded into one great WealdenGod (OEng 'Lord God') to break the Searuvel-spell so that Life can live on, in frith (peace).
Those to whom the Drygand calls from the Deep can become his thanes, his Menning, and bring him to his full Being in the World, and wake Men from their dark Sleep, to Wykewisen (ecological wisdom).

Initiation
The initiator stands behind the initiate, who sits facing away from him with head inclined foreward. The initiator, with hands framing the initiate's head, says, "I, (name), give to you, (name), the Lodestone, so that you may undergo the Cherrenge, and become a Menning. I give it... NOW (clasping head for a few seconds, then releasing). Fare henceforth a Menning and work Menning on Earth!"
One may only be so "dubbed" if he has shown himself to be already mennisch. Thus the act of initiation is merely grounding in time a process already (and not yet) begun in the person.

Mythsynthesis
The chaotic, destructive Dragon evolved/transformed into the shamanic, totemic Drygand; and so, the fearsome primeval Dragon-monster becomes "God" (the Self-archetype of Man-in-Biosphere). This happened when the Lodestone had formed in the Wolken, and was then dubbed on the Alwight by its human finders, Wil and Bil. At once, Alwight also becomes Drygand, Wolken becomes Feorgen, and Wil and Bil (the Twayne) become the first Mennings. And there is a change in the Wyrd of Earth.
The Lodestone was engendered in response to the ecological crisis of the Biosphere, gestated by the Wolken, implanted in the Alwight's head, and conferred in turn on the Twayne by the new-fledged Drygand, and thence to other humans ready for the Cherrenge from Man to Menning.
Drygand-- the ecological "God", a synthesis of Drygand, Alwight, and other nature-gods.
Wolken-- inchoate Nature-mind.
Alwight-- the protean Pan-chimaera of all species.
Feorgen-- conscious and intent Nature-mind, of which Drygand is an avatar.
Cherrenge-- the transformation of Man to Menning (Eco-mensch).
Menning-- the ecological culture-civilization of the Mennings.
This is the foundational myth of the Shaggy Sagenverden (myth-world).

The Ecological Archetype
The Drygand is the Ecological Archetype, the new God-idea for a world on the brink, with a prospect of terrible fate. He is a synthesis of previous gods (archetypes), according to the Value-idea of Deep Ecology, in itself a synthesis of thesis-- the primeval chthonic ethos of Man's embeddedness in and dependence upon Nature-- and its antithesis-- the dualist civilizational ethos of humanist distinctiveness and independence from Nature-- resulting in an evolutionary final ethos of Man as heroic protector of Nature, ensuring its survival and freedom from human interference, to wend its evolutionary Wyrd.. The Drygand, the avatar of Deep Ecology consciousness, embodies this transcendent Idea which offers hope for Life on Earth.

Explanation
When the Alwight becomes the Drygand, the Wolken also becomes Feorgen.
translation: When the protean all-species shape-shifter becomes the ecological shaman-warrior Dragon, the dreaming Nature-mind becomes the aware-intentional Nature-mind.
The Drygand is then protector of the Feorhord (the 'Life-treasury'= Biosphere); of Feorgen; and of the Menning (the ecological civilization).

The Way Ahead
Deep Ecology is the deepest idea of all time. It is the answer, the only hope for a future.
The way ahead is clear to see: Ecology is the way and the destination, to ecological civilization and ecological restoration, made possible by the rapid evolution of the Eco-menschen among humankind.
This happens, and Wyrd is turned.

Drygand Ideation
The Drygand is an archetype-complex who triggers the survival instincts, thus mobilizing the Psyche to fight the destruction of Life on Earth. He releases the primordial dragon-energies to induce the resynthesis of the cultural Idea-array to accord with the Ecological Imperative. He charges the mythopoetic Imagination to project transforming numina into the Searuvel, confounding its mad drive to apocalypse. He induces the sudden evolution of Mennings throughout the human population to leaven the metamorphosis of a new reality.
Drygand= the ecological god. 'Y' is pronounced as u-umlaut (u-sound with rounded lips).
Searuvel= the Evil Machine.
Mennings= citizens of the new ecological civilization.

The Meaning of Deep Ecology
With Deep Ecology, the Original Mind of archaic Man is brought to self-consciousness for the first time, in modern civilized man-- the Self manifests, as the Menning, because we return to the developmental stage of Culture-creation, the Mythopoetic Age, before the overdevelopment of certain human traits with the development of advanced civilizations, to a more juvenile, undifferentiated state of mind that is open, spontaneous, innocent, vital, flexible, creative, yet we retain our mature knowledge, including the lessons of experience gained over millennia by civilizations, and so do not repeat the mistaken turns we have made in our cultural evolution. This neoteny, the retention of juvenile traits with maturation, will be characteristic of the Menning, as if we regenerate growth from the rootstock of our nature, getting culture-civilization right this time, rather than heading further down the wrong road-- to a dead end, literally-- to annihilation. We have learned that, though we can no longer be a natural animal, that is, subject to natural selection, we can, and must become ecological, or else we, and the Biosphere, are doomed. That simple knowledge is the essence of Deep Ecology. So, it must be 'back to the rootstock', of original Nature-mind, to rethink civilization from the ground up. And the ideal of Ecology, personified in the Drygand, becomes the god-idea upon which a civilization of survival-- the Menning-- is worked out, its Ethos. We become, for the first time, the protectors, the Saviors, of the Biosphere-- that is to be our species-nature, and our role. This is our destiny-- to evolve into a new species, with an ecological way of life, both part of Nature and outside it, as its protector.
Menning (Ice.)= culture, civilization: the ecological culture-civilization.

The Phylogeny of the Mennings
First, there was archaic Man. Nature was his matrix, the All, full of numinous power, and he was its child. Nature was his family and his neighborhood. It was respected, feared, and loved.
Then came civilized Man, who had learned to herd animals and grow grain and store food and so-by increase over the land, building permanent townships to hold and protect his own, against beast and man without the walls. In his mind he became detached from Nature and increasingly distant from it, seeking to become independent and secure from it. He sought the favor of gods against the demons and monsters and fiends that lurked outside the walls, in the wilds. Nature was no longer family. It could be benevolent and beautiful, but it was set against him.
Finally, the estrangement of Man from Nature becomes extreme as his independence and security increase to enormous levels-- Nature becomes negligible, an ornament and a useful supply-store at best, a hindrance and a plague at worst. The numinosity has fled from it, apart from the horrific. Numinosity, if it exists at all, resides in the God of human welfare. Nature itself is overrun, used up, laid waste. And before long, it is dying. Man has triumphed over Nature, and now the child of Nature kills his parent.
This is when the Drygand comes. And the first men to become Mennings.

The Phylogeny of the Drygand
First, there was the primordial Serpent, a power-animal of fierce numinosity, representing the great, wild forces of the whole of Nature.
Then came the chimaeric creatures of civilizations around the world, the mightiest of which was the serpentile Dragon. It took various forms, notably as the destructive, treasure-hoarding Western monsters, as the Hindu were-snake Nagas, strangely similar to the aristocratic Celtic Faeries in their splendid underground courts, and as the Chinese Lungs, fabulous divine Nature-beings of the clouds, the rains, and the waters.
Finally comes the ecological Drygand, the ultimate evolution from Serpent and Dragon forebears; a quintessential synthesis from them; a revolutionary mutation induced by the crisis of the human-engineered Extinction Event; archetype of the modern Idea of ecology; heroic, transformative noumenon; and, finally, the heraldic icon of the new ecological civilization.

Back to Nature
Man is still subject to the irresistible allure of Wild Nature, within as well as without. This is to be 'taken by the Faeries', drawn into the inevitable destiny of beyond-human evolution, when we go back to Nature, but as its Champion, this time. Man becomes Heroic.

The Indryg
The Indryg, like the Land-dryg and the Drygand, is a warden-sule with the form of the Greek Agathos Daemon or Indian or Tibetan Naga, as presented in the previous shtook. But the Indryg is a personal guardian, such as a Fylgja or Hamingja, whereas a Dryg is guardian of an area of Nature, and the Drygand guardian of all Nature, though at a certain depth of understanding, they are all connected. The Indryg wards a Deepster particularly from the insidious allure and influence of the Searuvel-sith in which he is caught, so that he is not corrupted by it or turned away from troth to the Menning. But the Indryg gives personal help, advice, and warning to his mensch like any ordinary personal guardian does. If you are not acquainted with your Indryg, then turn your mind toward finding him within.

The Ecological Dragon
In the Deep Ecology movement, there seem to be two major gods in use-- Gaea and the Dragon. I have never been able to get into female divinity. That's just me. It took a long time, though, even after I started on the Mythos, to arrive at 'the Dragon', of which the Drygand is a form. I like the idea of an Ur-god of Nature, and it was Merlin in the movie Excalibur who really turned me on to the Dragon as the primordial pantheist God. It works.
Snakes, the basis of the dragon-concept, have been worshipped virtually everywhere-- it's their uncanny awesomeness. They really are alluring and amazing. A dragon is not just a snake, but a chimaeric creature, and I think there is something shocking, outlandish, monstrous about chimaeras, that can make them highly numinous, and a chimaera based on the snake is even moreso.
There are various ancient dragons or were-serpents that seem to be variations on an idea, maybe an extremely ancient idea. In going over my notes, I've come across a few of these which point toward a representation of the Drygand.
First is the ancient Greek Agathos Daimon, or 'good spirit-being', a guardian of the individual person, whose form is of a winged serpent. Perhaps a development from it is Hermes' caduceus, a winged staff wrapped in two snakes helixing up it in opposite directions. Hermes himself is quite interesting as a human-form god-- who knows how strange he was before he was human-ized! Then there's Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent of the Aztecs, and he is also in the mold of a winged serpent, but feather-bedecked. There was an Egyptian flying horned-snake, and the conventional Eurasian dragon has horns as well. There's also a Tibetan 'Naga' (Sanscrit for the etymologically-related 'snake'), whose upper half is human, and lower half snake-like, and it also has horns and wings. This I find perfect for the Drygand, though as Pan-chimaera, he can take any biological form. The Hindu nagas are treated more like wights than gods, I think, but are powerful beings nonetheless. They do have a king, the Naga-raja, who could serve, combined with the Tibetan naga, as the perfect model for the Drygand.
I don't know if there are many neopagans who find the Dragon to be their ultimate expression of Godhood, but in the form of the Drygand, I find that it works. It's primordial, preceding even the Titans, you could say; transhuman, and works as pantheist Nature God as well as Ecological Savior. A very powerful image and concept.

Hal, the Hald of Feorgen
Hal is orgyten of Feorgen when the Twayne gave the Lode to the Alwight, who then became Drygand, and from this fullness of time sprang Hal forth to hald Feorgen from the Searuvel, with the help of Drygand, Drylar, and Alfaer.
Hald(gmc.)= champion, preserver, protector.
orgyte(OEng)= pour out, manifest.
Feorgen is like a biologically-based form of Brahma, as Living Nature ensouled.
The Twayne, Wildiar(Will) and Bilwit(Bill), are like precursors of Drygand and Hal, respectively, inasmuch as Drygand is a force for magical transformation (like Shiva) and Hal for preservation and good order (like Rama, avatar of Vishnu).
The Alwight was playful Pan-chimaera, but the shaping intelligence of the Lodestone, a pearl-like growth of the Wolken, the Mind-realm of Feorgen, changed the Alwight to Drygand.
The Searuvel is reified and institutionalized human evil ensouled, something like Ahriman of Zoroastrianism (Persian dualism) and his subsequent better-known forms.
The Drylar are something like a hybrid of Tolkien's Rangers and High Elves, while the Alfaer are more like his Wood-elves.

Deepness
The essential, foundational mythic-metaphysical Idea of early German Romanticism was the animist notion that Nature is ensouled (the 'World Soul'). It had the function of healing the split between Man and Nature by conflating the inner depth of the Person with the outer depth of the Cosmos, into a Whole. This was a metaphysical belief of the philosophers, but, now as then, many do not experience Reality in this way or believe that it is true. But it is a necessary fiction, that requires a state of suspension of disbelief, in which analogistic/symbolic thinking is accepted, such as occurs in dream or trance, so that one can believe in it, but also disbelieve when strict rationality is required. This was a sophistication lost on the German philosophers, it seems.
Ecology, both in its shallow and deep aspects, was the creation of 19th century German Romantic Idealist culture. It is based on the perception/belief of the Oneness of Mind and Nature-- that is, in a World Soul or Nature-Mind, but specifically in a transhuman Mind of Nature (biospheric). This unifying archetypal ecological Idea is the energizing creative basis for a 'New Mythology' (spoken of by the early German Romantics) necessary to interpret Reality so that a new ecological culture-civilization embedded in, one with, Living Nature can be formed. It is a simple, coherent, viable, and powerful value-idea that will override those undergirding the old culture-civilization. The presence of this transformative quality is what we call 'Deepness'.

Higher
It is by being our animal self that we've done so much damage to the planet. We must either return to primal stupidity in which natural selection keeps us in balance with Nature, or we must evolve the wisdom-power of our brain-minds so that we both see and will the way of ecological balance-- rational and science-based behavioral restraint and action-- this is the essence of Deep Ecology. Deep Ecology is higher civilization. The Mennings of the future will be higher than the human animal, but without becoming machines. Something new, but a part of Nature.

Truth
We are all slaves to the Machine we have made. Now it makes us. We think we are saving ourselves by working the Machine. But we will become monsters, to better serve the Machine, which we think we control, to serve ourselves. But the Machine is destroying the planet, and when the Biosphere goes, so do the monsters.
Tell me that all this is not true.
Tell me that all this is not true.

Hal Ingend of the Menning
Hal Twayneson is the immixed whole of his fathers' two natures-- Wildiar's wild shamanic creativity and Bilwit's mild sacred-kingly stability. To the Menning, Hal brings the creative fermentation of the one and the enduring sustaining-power of the other, and as he is the Orgyte, the manifestation of the strong harmonious balance of the Twayne, both stagnation and chaos are avoided, and common-weal is ensured. He is thus Hal the Ingend, regenerating the Menning as needed, while sustaining the saving-power of its ecological ethos, as did Lord Ing in the ancient days. He is Lord Ing remade.
Hal= foster-son of the Twayne: Wildiar and Bilwit.
Ingend= the ever-begetter of good ecological order. Ger. jungen= to bring forth the young, of animals. *Ingwaz= the Vanic god of fertility and prosperity, the model of the Sacred King.

Ecology is IT
Ecology is the foundational and integrating idea for the survival of Man on Earth. It is prophetic, in that the prophet attempts to preserve his culture in a new form that can survive new, catastrophic circumstances, and to do this, he must re-form the cultural model (mazeway) by presenting a simple, comprehensible yet comprehensive form of the old culture, stripped down and geared up for survival. In our present situation, where everything we do systemically worsens the Ecocatastrophe that will inevitably bring our world culture down, only the core idea of Ecology as the basis for a new mazeway could possibly save us-- and the world that supports us. And as obvious as this would seem, it takes something like a religious conversion for individuals to clearly know its truth and be compelled by it. And that is exactly IT-- Ecology provides the necessary religious culture for survival, in whatever forms it takes. It is the religion of the future. That is the prophetic message for our time.

The Alfaeren, Farers of the Deep
The origin of the word 'elf' is unknown. It might be related to Latin 'albus'(white) or 'alp'(high mountain) which might itself be derived from 'albus' or a Celtic equivalent, referring then to the white peaks of high mountains. Mythos etymology is loosey-goosey, and so 'elf' might be related to Sanscrit 'alvar'(a South Indian Hindu sect), meaning 'one who dives deep'. Perhaps, then, 'alp' and 'alvar' both refer to great vertical length-- high/deep. Anyway, I prefer Old Norse 'alfar'(elves) to 'elves'(cutesy connotation and used-up by now) or 'alf''. 'Alfar', besides just being a plural form, could be read as 'Alfaer'(alf + faery, or 'all-farer' suggesting shamanism(far-traveler)). And I see the Alfaeren as some kind of shaman-- one who dives deep into the sacred mythopoetic realm of the Wolken, the Mind of the Biosphere. Maybe a warrior-shaman, maybe a woo-woo shaman.
I like the word 'deep', as in 'deep mind', 'deep thinker', 'Deep Ecology', and 'deep elves'(Tolkien-- in The Hobbit?). As opposed to 'shallow', as in 'the shallows that are present-day planetary culture, in which one may easily drown'. I see the Alfaeren as ambiguous beings-- are they(we) human, or are they spirit-emanations of the Wolken? Well, either or both, but Deep. Perhaps 'deep' is related to Sanscrit 'deva'(god), ultimately.

What You Must Do
Feorgen is the Whole, of Edhli and Wolken melded in Twyrymet-- the two worlds become One, begaldren. For this to come, the Urquell, the Well Between the Worlds, must open, so the Samen can flow free, throughout, and then you have the Meld. And the Old Holydom of Feorgen edchers to dwell within-without, and the sway of the Ever-way of Feorgen brings Edhlifrith on Earth.
Find the Urquell in the midmost, free the Samen-flow, and ernern the eormen Oz-god so that He may ragnen all, once more.

Feorgen, the God That Evolved
Feorgen is evolved life on Earth. He lives in time, so he changes. He develops, but he can be amputated or even annihilated. He is all the life existing at each particular time but also the life-zone it inhabits-- the Biosphere. He is mental as well as biological, but in many ways he is inchoate, being too vast and various an organism to be a single mind-- his manifestations, biological and mental, are more coherent and comprehensible. And Man is the most able of the biologicals to comprehend and make coherent this complexity of the organism, Feorgen, and to act in his interest. But Man is a species limited, imperfect, and problematic. Therefore he needs the help of the mental aspect of Feorgen, particularly of those entities who are specifically manifestations resultant from Man's injury to the Organism. And the Mythos tells of these beings and of their interaction with Man.

Feorgen Troth!
Whatever Nietzsche meant when he wrote,"Remain true to the Earth", transformed into Mythos terms it becomes "Keep troth with Feorgen". And that means: "Uphold your bond with Feorgen in your mind and heart. Don't let yourself be drawn-in and then trapped by the blandishments of an evil global culture to the point of accepting it as normal. Find a way to stand apart from the wrong-headed human herd-- find your heroic myth and try to be it and live it. Seek the support of the Powers of the Menning-within, the Otherworldly beings of the Mythos, who come from Feorgen and not the Searuvel. Strive always to see the corrupted civilization around you with the grounded clearsighted realism that comes from the bond with Feorgen, who is biological Life itself. And act, wherever and however possible, to advance the onset of his Menning". Feorgen troth!

The Indryg
In the inmost of each mensch lies his warding Indryg-- his Good Guyst-- wound into a whorl from which in his dreaming he shtrals his sidden throughout the body and mind.

Feorgen, the Ealdor
Feorgen is the Old One, the biospheric God of Feorgen-berg-- "Life-mountain": planet Earth. He is Elder God-- God of Life on Earth. He is Edhli, He is Wolken, in One. And He is suffering a human onslaught. For that reason, the Mythos word for Ecology is Feorgeneru-- preservation of Life-- and those who work to save Feorgen are his Feorgenergends, saviors.
Feorgen= Father Earth. from ON Fjoergyn(oe~ o-umlaut)= Mother Earth (Fjoerginn is the male form). Fjoer= life (~OE Feorh). OE Firgen-= wooded) mountain. possible connection with Baltic thunder-god Perkunas('thunder'), Skt Parjanya(raincloud, god of rain), Slav Pergyni(mountain, wooded hill).
Ealdor(OE)= an elder, authority, ancient source; life, vital part.
Edhli(ON)= the Biosphere.
Wolken(Ger 'cloud'))= the biospheric mind.
Feorgener(OE)= preservation of life, Ecology. nerian= to save. Neriand/Nergend= savior.

The Answer
The postmodern condition, said by some to have arrived in the 1960s, has transcended us from the dualist-rationalist combats of modernism into a confusion of deracinated fragmentation ("pixelation"?), but a further transcending presents itself-- the Age of Ecology, which can be said to have officially arrived on April 22,1970-- Earth Day One. In the Age of Ecology, ecology becomes the organizing principle. No longer split dualism or polymorphous confusion, but simplicity, clarity, reality. The criterion is "Is it ecological?" People who see and think clearly know that this is the only hope for survival. Everything else is catastrophic delusion and villainy. It really is this simple-- ecology as the gravitational center of culture that like the Sun pulls all the bodies into orderly motion together. The religious, the philosophical, the scholarly, the scientific, the economic, the political, the cultural-- everything falls within the dire survival mandate for ecologicality. Ecology is the Answer, the Genius of the New World yet to manifest. Will we make it so, or will the World go down with us as we engineer our doom?

A Sketch of the Development of "Ecology"
"Ecology"-- I mean in the cultural rather than the strictly biological sense-- is a modern development. I see it as coming from the integration of mystical nature-romanticism, modern biological science, and utopian and transhuman moralities. It came out of modern world-historical cultural evolution-- it could not have existed previously, not in the gestalt in which we now have it. Crucial in its development were the Enlightenment and Romantic movements. The necessary elements became available and combined over the 19th century and "Ecology" as an alternative civilization had been roughly formulated by World War I, I would say, particularly in the German- and English-speaking countries. After this, expressions of the ecological world-view are seen in different times and places, but it became a world-wide mass-culture movement through the decade from the early 1960s to early 1970s. And it was inextricably bound up with the Counterculture uprising which occurred then.
Since then, I don't see innovations in the ideology of "Ecology" as much as in expressions of it. The foundation has been laid, and in the current phase we try to build something substantial and enduring on it.
