The Doom Machine

Hypertrophy is the equilibrium state of the present world.  In the fatal marriage of High Tech Man and Biosphere, hypertrophy progresses to the Omega Point-- the End.  Man has tried to triumph over life in the state of Nature for the bettering of human existence.  But stupid, inexorable human nature defeats the dream of rationalized perfection--"Just keep tinkering with the Machine until we get it right."  But the mad logic of growth results in extinction, when hypertrophy surpasses the limits to growth.  As the fear of our collective demise increases, everything is done to speed up the hypertrophy, to outrun the mechanical horses of the Apocalypse (to buy some more time, only to make the final plunge one to a much deeper depth of Hell on Earth).  We've known from the early 1970s, at least, where we were headed, and done nothing sufficient to stop the Machine, mainly because short-term, near-at-hand concerns of self-interest always prevailed-- the 'Limits to Growth' of human wisdom-- and it always trumps long-term survival.  So, "Bye bye, humans, bye bye, world."

Makers of the New God

The purpose of the Twayne, why they were brought together and joined in love, was to bring the New God into being.  They must find him a form suitable to be born into, an expression of his Idea: of Ecos melded with Eros.  But there will be other forms, to follow--  for there will be many distinct avatars of EcoEros, all over the Earth.

The Making of the New God

We must make in our inner mind-body a temple for the new God, EcoEros, perhaps as a tree-cathedral in a forest, with a part-carven blasted tree, the Irminsul, as the idol for him to enter, so that he may act in us and through us in the world.  We must give him the proper form to enter, conceptual and visual, which has to come from a mutual labor of our conscious and Unconscious, ultimately-- intellectual and intuitive.  When the form is right, that will be clear.  And then we may call him in to enter, offer him of our vital force to prime his powers.  And in the moonlit night with the starlight winking through the tree-tops, we may present ourself to him, asking to serve his will.

Maker of Dead Things

Man is a tool-user by nature.  Therefore he is always prone to possession by the thing-making mind, that makes of living substance dead things of use to him.  He uses images and ideas to make tools and weapons and machines, to gain power-over, to convert life to dead things.  And so he walks a narrow road between life-giving and death-dealing, always a threat to the living world, the ultimate killer.  And he is so thoughtless of his power to convert life to death, because it is part of his nature.

Man!  Know thyself! as the evil being that you are, the ultimate killer who stalks Life itself, so that what is life-giving in you, of Eros, may keep the death-dealer in check.  It is a hard thing to know, one's evil nature, but it is the only source of hope, for us, for Life.

In The Spell

Unless one dwells in the spell of the Nonrational-- of romanticism, of the numinous, of mysticism, of magic, of mystery, of intuition, of wisdom, of power and strength and struggle, of religion, of holism, of ecology, of emotion, of the sensuous, of enjoyment, of esthetics, of passion, of vision, of the imagination, of the Deep, of the ancient, of tradition, of the Earth, of Nature, of biology, of instinct, of sex, of love, of the Dream, of creativity, of hope, of joy and ecstasy and bliss, of goodness and morality, of quest and its fulfilment, of striving and victory-- one lacks the inspired power to prevail.  And it all comes from Eros, Great God of Love and Life-Urge and Wisdom.

Love-Leads

Through human love, and love of nonhuman life, we can access the cosmic love that is Eros.  All love leads on to the One Love, the Love of All Life: EcoEros.

The treasures of Verden are the symbol-objects that when combined magically (i.e., worn and borne by Drygand), recreate mankind as ecological.  Wildiar and Bilwit, the Twayne, together seek them all.

Man is smart but not wise-- wisdom is elusive, inscrutable, to the rational intellect, and we aren't even looking.  Behold the man: way beyond his station and getting it all wrong.  Perhaps he should return to where he could see-- and know.

Summon the forces of nonrational consciousness for the rescue of AllLife.  EcoSelf is beyond the grip of rationalistic debunkery.  Skirt the trap of rationalism-- go to intelligence beyond computer logic-- to intuitive grasp.

Go straight to EcoGod, in the Deep Mind, to this Holon, the Ecological Self, the archetype that unites Man with Nature.

Chthonic Snake

The Drygand is the synthesis of Man and Snake, conscious and Unconscious, the chthonic Snake uniting Man and Nature, the mythopoetic subliminal Self.

Search

They search desperately for the Great Good: the necessary, numinous, invigorating Ideas, the intuitive, mythic Ideas: the Old Wisdom lost.  To bring back EcoEros to counter Machine Mind and debased android mind.  Search in old tomes, in Nature, in Love, in Deep Mind.  The young witya and his knightly protector search for the great redeeming Ideas.

The Wrong Sort

Biological existence is about reproduction.  Feeding and escaping being fed upon are just a way to survive to reproduce successfully.  One lives to breed and send out offspring to continue the line.  But when life is easy and one can enjoy it, life has another purpose: taking pleasure in being alive.  It's a temptation that can result in untimely death, if you're not careful. That really is the problem: not being smart enough or well-controlled enough to preserve life: one's own and of the life-matrix in which one lives.  Some lines are smart and controlled by their intelligence: most are not.  And the Nots call the shots-- woe is us: the Dictatorship of the Wrong Sort.

Live In Dream

One must live in dream, for the powerful saving Symbol to come, and to work.

Chimaera Integrate

Chimaeras are of conscious and unconscious analogues conjoined.  The weirdness of these emergent entities is due to the ill fit of the parts.  But this gives way to a new unification as the complementary halves integrate: the Self harmonizes them.

Pan-Chimaera

Chimaeras arise in the deep mind, their segments fused together with great energy, so they hold great power.  Then they rise to the join of deep mind with aware conscious mind.  A zoo of chimaeras gather there, and form a shocking Pan-Chimaera, the Drygand.  When Drygand unifies his chimaerical incongruities, the undifferentiated EcoGod is formed in him, the One, in all his unleashed power to do good.

Psychic Physics

The psyche is a continuum.  When difference is overrode, the wholeness flows freely, all false boundaries erased, as unification begets energy: which is merely undifferentiated matter.

Meant To Be

EcoGod is the inner pagan Daimon: the Soul, the Self, Eros.  The strong conscious ego was hard won, but now it must combine with the unconscious Daimon.  The conscious ego is impoverished-- to be possessed by the Soul is to live richly, fully.  The numinous powers within are pagan, primitive-- this is the way back; there is no way forward, no way at all.  The future is in the primeval: Nature-God becomes self-conscious in us, as was meant to be, in Love forever.

Sixties Jung

It's a shame that Carl Jung didn't live another ten years, because the Sixties were so Jung!  And as he felt very close to Nature and liked to live without electricity or running water and to chop wood for heat and cooking, he would have been very supportive of the burgeoning environmental movement, and would have had some very powerful statement to make at the first Earth Day, 1970.  He might even have become a Deep Ecologist!

The Doctrine of Holism

Ahem!  Harrumph!  The Doctrine of Holism states that God is a biological Organism-- the Biosphere, in fact-- which is not distinguished from Biospheric Mind, as Mind and Nature are One System!

Representation

EcoGod is represented by a (phallic) Greek column supporting a globe-shaped ecology symbol; it is like a beacon-light atop a tower, or even like Sauron's eye atop the tower of Barad-dur (horrors!).  But it derives from the Chthonic Ithyphallos from C. G. Jung's famous early dream, with an upward-gazing eye at the urethral opening with an aura about it.  Welcome to the weird world of the nonrational.

The Missing God

God-Nature is that which connects in relationship.  It is the missing God, what is missing in us, in our culture.  We know his existence by his absence in us.  If we want him, we must search to find him.

Will we ever be ready for God-- the real God, the primeval God, the God of Life on Earth?  Or will we go on in blind indifference, to our well-laid fate, our death from his absence?

The Pattern Which Connects

The Ecology Symbol represents the homeostatic feedback loop characteristic of all Life, at all levels, from the tiniest to the greatest of all, the Biosphere.  It is the fractal pattern which connects all life on Earth in relationship.

The Romance

The Romance of Deep Ecology: the romantic world-saga of numinous enlightenment and the rebirth of the Soul, and the combined struggle to save the Earth; of love of Life and genius intuition and mental fight and heroic striving for unification and union with the Biosphere in Menning.

Menning= the ecological culture-civilization.

Interpenetration

Humans at one with Nature are Nature made conscious of itself: Nature-God-in-us.  Such interpenetrative union is found in the love of Life, and this union is characterized by love and virtuous conduct.

Anti-chaos

Humans create chaos and destroy Nature.  Whence comes ecological order?  From ecological Self, within, without: Drygand, EcoEros: two suns shining steady light and warmth to grow order.  So bask and be set right.

Twin Suns

Drygand is the Sun, of the Otherworld; EcoEros is the Sun of Thisworld: twin suns circling in a cosmic dance.

EcoEros is the Summer King, presiding augustly as Nature thrives; god of light and warmth, growth and fertility, feeding, surviving.  Drygand is Winter King, at work in the realm of mystery, of underpinning ideas and patterns, mystic forces interacting; god of fire and heat, transformation, recombining, rebirth.

EcoEros shines greengold, Drygand goldorange.  One is outer, the other inner.  One practical, one magical.  Twin suns ruling the Lifeworld as one, locked in a ring.

Nonrational Ecology

Deep Ecology is nonrational Ecology: Nature mysticism both romantic and scientific, bringing the love that binds one to the Life-All that is Good, in best harmony.

Seed-Crystal

The "pattern that connects" is a seed-idea (Ecology) that re-forms everything, making it all congruent.

Sacred Marriage

EcoEros can precipitate unification of the Self around the idea of Ecology, creating a genius possessed by the idea of Ecology.  Eros-- love-- unites Man and Nature in the monist-mystical union of sacred marriage, a stabilizing force against destructive chaos.

God-In-Us

God becomes self-aware out of unconscious Nature-mind through human consciousness.  And in the moment of our beholding God, God beholds us, and is born in the soul.  In time, conscious Nature-mind will dwell in humankind and operate out of us, for the good of all Life.

Transform

In a time of disintegration and chaos, powerful instinctive forms for union and separation are activated, that can transform person, group, and culture toward long-term survival.  In the ecological transformation, identification with Nature and concomitant differentiation from humanity will reset the psyche and world in a new mold, toward long-term survival.

Greed For God

Humans brought a consciousness revolution to Nature-God, and so He may know himself through our mind.  However, the knowledge we gain through this enhanced consciousness is dangerous without integration with God.  Given our strong tendency to split away from Nature as we can, to better our lot, our relentless greed for self-betterment will bring us down, destroy us, if we do not turn it to greed for oneness with God, that we may know ourselves through Him, and know his Will and strive to fulfil it.

Coevolved EcoEros

God and Man coevolved by natural and cultural selection, so we have God-in-us, latent or manifest, a semi-autonomous force in the psyche, the mysterious Holy Spirit, the instinctive Life-Daimon EcoEros.  We are shot-through with God, we are never in complete control.  His love-libido can invade our conscious precinct and take possession of us, even unawares.  He can make demands of us.  We resist-- but should we?  What if we combined?

Ecological Love

Ecological Love is the worldwide reciprocal love of God-Nature and Man, of Self to self to Self to self, where Lover and Beloved become one in God-in-us, a love-making in cyclic wedlock.

More Love

The Love of EcoEros is the 'More', of the nonrational side of Ecology beyond the simple survival logic of the organism, which burns through the accumulated artifice of Machine-world and recreates the mind in an ecological cast.

Hoving Niche

The Lodestone hoves in the brain, a niche for the Chthonic Phallos, who oozes semen which runs down his length and pools and runs out to seep into the bloodstream, like divine nectar, grenefyre in the blood, which one imbibes.

-this comes from an early dream of Carl Jung, and a late one, as well as from the Shiva-linga in its temple chamber.

Teamed

When Merlin and Arthur become as one, the Druid and the King combine in the heart-wedlock of Twins.  And then the world attains ecological balance.  When the two tendencies become team-yoked and guided aright, then Man's power is raised but kept within mete bounds.  And all Life thrives.

First, Last, Next

The first man, original man, and the last man, modern man, are united by Ecology, and then you have the next man.

The first God, Chthonic Phallos, and the last God, the Searuvel, in likewise become the next God, the Drygand, and next man is informed by him through his Lode.

First and last are primal and futurist combined as the launch-point for the next age, of Ecology.

Careful

The fragile body of Nature must be given our love and care.  We must go gently, as with a loved one.  As we do not, Nature cannot give us her gifts, and we may find ourselves unable longer to provide us that modicum of comfort and safety, finding Nature a harsh mistress once more, with ourselves to blame.

The Wild Love-God

EcoEros is the Wild Love-God firing his fire-bolts to inflame the mind with the love-bliss-trance of natural religion.

EcoEros

EcoEros is the god of love and lust, of passion and fertility, of the survival instinct that drives all living things, of mystical eroto-naturalism.  He is, then, Drygand, the Chthonic Phallos, whose love-field links the person to Feorgen, biospheric Mind.

World Strategy

The world at this time desperately needs an ecological prophet, an axial figure who will shift reality forever, an inspired, possessed, creative-genius culture-hero who can galvanize the world.  But, thinking of the case of Jesus, such a figure would be vulnerable to assassination or enthrallment, becoming merely a puppet, and in either case, neutralized.  And so, this figure must not be a man, but a myth, a legend, believed by some to be a living man, by others to be a useful fiction, and he is ambiguous-- heroic, prophetic man, or demigod? or daimon? or god? but in any case a living icon, and his 'disciples' keep the legend alive, an inchoate brotherhood, perhaps acting independently, often anonymously, like anarchic guerrillas making surprise attacks at important nexuses in the collective mind of global culture, and thus our axial world-transformer is the rough, ambiguous product of many attuned minds acting independently, with the same aim, each contributing what he can to the figure, altering him, evolving him as necessary or as one is compelled by inspired possession to do.

But of course, this enterprise would be massively countered by the powers that be, of all sorts-- the money and power blocs, the religious faithful, or just the motley population of evil and crazy individuals or groups who introduce chaos to the algorhythm.  And so, how this situation would play out in the end, is impossible to predict.  Even so, it might be worth a try in a desperate world.  And perhaps humanity will come through, as occasionally it does, getting it right, doing the right thing, and despite all mighty contending forces and confusion, the Good will win out and the Axis will rotate, and reality be shifted, and the great Catastrophe averted-- is it worth a try?

Believe/Not Believe

When in my rational mind, I am an unbeliever.  When in my nonrational mind, I am a believer.  In my rational-nonrational synthesis-mind, I am a believer in what is necessary for survival of the person, and on up to the Biosphere.  This is what justifies and validates it.

Need-God

God is Ecology, the Life-world Mind, the corrective to our misfitness, our inadequacy and destructiveness.  We need God, because we are too dangerous to remain unaware and irresponsible.  Once we recognize this, we must ask for his help and turn our mind toward him.  And he sends to us his answer, his active agent, Drygand, a new God for a new era: the Age of Ecology, with a new covenant for Man: "Protect the Life-world and survive."  If we try, he will help.

Man of May

The young man of May sheds his seed oer the fertile earth, invests his substance on the land, leaves this mark of wed-bond as husband to the welfare of Life-world.  And everywhere a young man does this of May and the earth is reassured.

Right Mind

What goes on in your mind is all-important, and you are responsible for maintaining it as best you can, for it makes or breaks the world.  It matters vitally, far beyond  'for myself in my here-and-now', for 'my group', 'my species', but for the whole life-world, to survive and thrive henceforth.  And for this, religion is crucial-- the right kind of religion for the right kind of mind, because only through us can God manifest to save the world.

The Wrong God

The received religious orthodoxy of the present day is "It's all good," a kind of liberal soft-nihilism indistinguishable from "It doesn't matter."  It's motivated by political expediency-- the powers don't want religious ideologies and religious conflict hampering the realization of their agendas (which could only tenuously be described as religious).

I think I comprehend why they must do this and sympathize to an extent-- except that their agendas are catastrophic, ecocidal-- just war by other means; a war everyone loses--'mutually assured destruction'.

Inasmuch as a religion's conception of God epitomizes a worldview, a civilization, a culture, its ethos, values, ideas, way of life, the predominant Gods (the atheist-materialist one, too) are the wrong God-- all hopeless, all catastrophic.  There is a right God, though.  And do we need him now.

God and Man

Feorgen Life-God, Pantheos, Eco-- by any name the one true God.  He has let Man have his head, do as he would, with his humanist God, humanist culture, but can't anymore.  The one true God is ecologically moral, and so must Man become, or go extinct by his own hand.  Drygand is Feorgen's agent, at work among men though Feorgen and Drygand are one.  Drygand is God-within-- survival instinct become Self-archetype: EcoSelf.  He seeks by means fair or foul to possess the humanist ego, so to save the world.  And he needs our help.

Witch Hunt Reversal

The Last Witch Hunter (2015) with Vin Diesel, Elijah Wood, Rose Leslie, and Michael Caine.  A Deep ecologist might see things in this movie that ordinary people wouldn't, possibly deriving from the formative influences on one or more of the three writers.  Sort of anti-Deep Ecology, generally, this movie.  It seems like black propaganda, but maybe it's just entertainment-- or is there a difference.

Religious Deep Ecology

Deep Ecology is little more than an idea.  For some, it's ideology, or philosophy, but as religion, it's like a coloring or flavoring of an established religion.  But for me, it is religion-- accept no substitutes.  

But what sort of religion might actually work in the state we're in now?  I think it has to be simple, coherent, stable: a clear-cut meme resistant to cooptation.  It has to make simple common sense, not be dependent on beliefs or associations: basic, pure, comprehensible, easily transportable, a contagious option, not dependent on authorities, institutions, sacred objects, scriptures, requiring no expensive gear or tithes, just a few symbolic image-ideas that can be easily called to mind.

Being religion, it has to work-- it has to be essential, crucial, central, orienting, deeply serious and meaningful, helpful, hopeful, practical, universal.  It has to make shift as a reliable guiding 'tradition'- easy enough for each to improvise if it indeed has power for you, if it delivers, keeps you going. Easy, then, for some; for others, some effort required.  But it's religion!  What do you want?  Pre-packaged, from a coin-operated dispenser?  Make your own!

EcoMan

EcoMan draws his extraordinary power from a certain physical sympathy with Nature.  His body and soul are so delicately attuned to the harmony of the natural world that a touch of his hand or a turn of his head may send a thrill vibrating through the universal framework of things, and conversely his divine organism is acutely sensitive to such slight changes of environment as would leave ordinary mortals wholly unaffected.   --slightly altered excerpt from J. Self Manifest

The Self archetype manifests as a culture-field: EcoSelf.  EcoSelf is an internal personal mazeway-model of reality and its civilizational system: the Menning, to replace the current planetary extermination system, the Searuvel.

Menning= ecological culture-civilization.
Searuvel= the evil machine.

Pantheology

The Great Pan is Pantheos: "All-God", God of Nature; also known as Feorgen: "Life-God", Father Earth.

The Drygand is his agent among humans, his Animus, embodying his animating intention and purpose: to will a new Ideal for Man, a new aspiration for which to always strive: Ecology, a new way, the only way, for Man: to save Nature, and so survive, is our destiny, how we can evolve within the matrix of Life, our meaning: to integrate with the Body and Mind of God.

The Animal Archetype

The way to the Eco-Self lies through the archetype of the Inner Animal, a step back to move forward, a return to Source, instinctive more than socialized, towards Nature rather than Culture, subscending the human so as to transcend it.

Become the Animal deep inside yourself, at one with Nature, the undifferentiated Animal in you, Uroboros, Pan-Chimaera Totem, Chthonic Phallos Daimon, with all the basic traits full spate, light and dark, and organizing Intelligence will cast them all in a high-energy interaction-System: transhuman Eco-Self.

Follow the Way of the Inner Animal archetype to the Eco-Self.

Eco-Self and my-self

The Drygand, Eco-Self, is the Daimon-within who once roused will try to take charge of the Psyche.  But the my-self must meet him, as hero who contends with Dragon, and mediate a mutual modus operandi, a modus vivendi, for best strongest order-- the culmination: a dual-Monism, the daimonic grounded in the ordinary.

Conversion

Lurking below, the Drygand-within.  Invite him in, and he takes possession.  It's quick, was waiting, ready.  The Lode constellates, the Idea reconfigures all, throughout.  Much is lost, more gained.  All is deeply strange but soon feels normal-- a new identity, a new world, with a new God.  A tipping point at which the Ground tilts, overturns, disintegrates, reforms in a new configuration-- the right one.  The Lode and its Daimon hold sway.  You cannot go back, the new state is time-forward.  A complete transformation-- a forced conversion when one's world collapses.  In the terror of extremis, the logic is 'change or die'.  Change, then.

Rearrange

A disintegrated, ill-fit system, when overloaded with psychic energy, spontaneously rearranges for a level of least stress-- best coherence and reality-fit.  A stronger, more stable equilibrium state, then, that spreads by contagion easily for that reason.

Ur-God

Pan-Hermes, Rudra-Shiva, Baal-El, Ing-Woden-- all are from the Chthonic Phallos Daimon, Ur-God of fertility, life, greed, sex, force, death, change, stability.

Theology

The Great Good God is the Biosphere's tribal Totem, its Agathos Daimon: guardian Genius, and Self-archetype of cosmic order: Ecoordo.  He is neither all-knowing nor all-powerful, but embodies the survival Urge, and its Will, and the inherent Wisdom of vast eons of Life on Earth.  And he can be our God, if we choose to bind ourselves to him, bind our fate to the fate of the Biosphere.  And so, we become transhuman, and find our place, where we fit in the whole Scheme, to 'be among' the interacting network of life-forms who are his charges and his Body, our self-interest lying in his Self-interest.

Daimons

The ancient Greek daimons were differentiated from gods, who were human-form, with human personalities, and had their own myths and cults.  Daimons were usually vaguer, unseen, or appearing as weird creatures, not persons, and not worshiped.  They may have prevailed before the gods of civilization came along.  Yahweh seems to have been more a daimon than a god like Baal, say, but a daimon who became eventually the God, a God who was not like a Greek god, or other polytheistic gods of the ancient world.  A daimon is of the Unconscious, the Unknown-- unknowable, not a person, incomprehensible, often appearing in multiple forms, or as animals or chimaeras, or strange natural phenomena, and were without their own myths and cults.

The Drygand is, like archaic Yahweh, more of a daimon than a god, but unlike him, a daimon who became the Daimon.  

God of Spring

The Drygand has been known to appear in this vernal season as Frey the Fertile, who rides about the land to waken life-forms from winter's sleep.  Or he may appear as ithyphallic Hermes of the herm-pillar.  Or as a splendid naked youth, the Kouros, who in his dithyramb dances Spring into full flower. Or as unclothed Adam of the full fledged Garden.  Or as the leaf-clad Green Man, King of the May.

All are manifestations of the vital erotic God of Spring, of Life resurrected, of Life triumphant over inimical conditions, and so of the Drygand, who brings hope for the survival of All Life.

Boundary Transforms

The Self serves as intermediary at the boundary layer between the domains of the conscious ego and the Unconscious.  This layer is a selectively permeable membrane across which mental content transforms as it passes through.  This interface is where the two domains interact, intercommunicate.  The Self, being a transformer, represents the unconscious mind to the conscious ego.  Inasmuch as the ego can accept influences coming through this membrane it becomes more permeable.  The Self, the unitive progressive force in the psyche, can enable an interaction between ego and Unconscious which is a sort of conversation in which the ego 'listens' to the voice of the Deep and replies, as it were.  In this way both the ego and Self become stronger, more developed, and more integrated.  The Unconscious 'speaks' cryptically, in imagery as well as words, and this can be interpreted both intuitively and intellectually.  But the ego can only know the Unconscious by this mediated means, and can surmise its own effect on the Unconscious only through apparent changes in what comes across, and also by changes in its own self.  Though material coming across can come from different sources, the Self is Meta-archetype of Wholeness that can subtly permeate much of this traffic, and whose teleological purpose can steer the development of the whole psyche.

The above is my own attempt to model Jung's concepts.  How mythic and how realistic it is, I don't know.

Death and Resurgence

The wild Nature God was killed by rationalist philosophy and monotheism.  "The great God Pan is dead!" was heard.  Fierce Yahweh, sky god of scrubland and mountain, lost his weird vital numinous power.  Rigid institutional systems of thought and moral stricture killed the primal Shaman God.

But the God that was, is back.  He slept and dreamed in a hidden catacomb til there came a readiness for him, a dire need, as the civilization that drove him to his grave is failing, as people can no longer bear its clutch, and go running for the hills.  But his time is no more, the world has changed and can't go back.  So if he is to return to preside, it must be in a new form, taking account of what has prevailed since he's been gone.

And so, he returns twofold-- logical and analogical, rational and nonrational, of dualism and monism, moral and meta-moral, of clear sense and of mythopoesy, complete.  He is yet the primal Nature God, with all the old wild magical-mystical force, but informed by the complex systematization of civilization and its body of acquired knowledge, his new myth the Myth of Eco-Self, of "I am I AM" of man and God oned in Nature.  And this means we must converse I-and-I, to be of one Mind in covenant, because only in this way can God remain with us.  If we need him to stay, we must become his people, we must find what it is he wants of us and we must strive to work it in the world, with his help.  We must enter the mind-space where our being can meet with his Being, dwell together, commune with the Mystery, approach the Presence!

Mete Bounds

A species can overgrow the limits of its niche and overrun the environment if not held in check by limiting forces.  What holds us back? --not enough!  Limiting forces can come from within us, from Nature-within, the 'self''-limiting Eco-Self.  Will these forces be conscious and ego-determined, or of source unknown and autonomous-- or perhaps rather both-- as perhaps it's up to the Eco-Self, which integrates the ego and the Unbeknownst, to hold the chaotic-destructive human species in check, to set limits, and keep us within the mete bounds of Eco-order. 

Unbeknownst= the Unconscious, the Mystery.

Core Identity

  The Core Identity of the biospheric Eco-Self is a nebular constellation morphing around an equilibrium attractor: Ecology. It's also a world-girdling cloud of interconnected ideas, imagery, and rules: Feorgen.  This Big Identity of Life-on-Earth, with its systemic wisdom-intelligence, is the analog-structure for human psychic economy and culture: Menning.

Feorgen= biospheric mind (God).
Menning= ecological culture-civilization.

Collapse and Constellation

Get too far out from the Source, too complex, too contradictory-divergent, and things can disintegrate, fall back toward the center-point, and its charged uniting Idea reconstellates according to the impinging forces of the moment to a morphing formation for steady-state order that possesses the field and induces integration according to its attractor pattern.  And so from the failure of the old comes a fresh form of life, elegant and strong.

Eco-Neotene

Part of humans' survival advantage is a prolonged development period in which we remain neotenous-- open to acculturative imprinting from experience and instruction.  Therefore we can be fitted to survive in novel circumstances.  And on into maturation we can remain neotenous to the extent of being able to recognize and respond creatively to and learn from novel challenges.  Many cultures do everything they can to suppress neoteny after the essential early molding is accomplished. But in the West, particularly, constant innovation requires permanent neoteny, as we have created a culture, and thus a world, in permanent revolution-- with catastrophic consequences impending.  But we can use our neoteny to respond creatively to the challenges and remake ourselves, as needed, to counter the catastrophe, with help from the best in us: Eco-Self.  We need to remain neotenous, even protean, to find and make ourselves what we must be, for the survival of Life.  We must retain our maturing phase, toward post-adolescent transformation, to quickly evolve to a higher level of complex integration so that we can remake our species to stop the destruction-- in short, we must adapt or go extinct, along with much else of the Biosphere.

The Drygand, of course, is the messianic-millennial culture-hero shaman-prophet representing the Eco-Self, whose role is to inspire the neotenous creative genius by which we can effectively respond to the crisis.

Neoteny= retention in adults of traits characteristic of the young: physiological, anatomical, and/or mental; delayed or partial maturation.

Tacit

God is tacit, God is latent.implicit.potential.  So seek him down in uncertain trance, in the daimonic liminal field; realize while there your extraordinary trans-personhood, inflated-possessed of his genius.

Over-soul

The Over-soul is the daimonic-divine power, the over-driving force for Life-survival, the ecological imperative, the source of world eco-order, the living Ideal, the uniting Mystery: I-and-Thou.

Over-belief

What is our Meta-myth, our Over-belief?  That of the One, Life-God within-without: Nature-Mind: Eco-Self.  The others, even if still strong, are seen to be inimical to salvation.

Edge Way

Whether he likes it or not, Man is dominant-- every thing we do matters.  So we must be cautious, we must balance on a knife's edge as we make our way, or we destroy the Biosphere and ourselves.  This is a hard way.  So we must keep faith with God, and accept his help, else we fall, to the ruin of All.

Just Know

Some things you just know to be true (or not true), you just get it, through an intelligence not argument.  Tacit understanding becomes seeing.  This is how the wisdom of Ecology awakens to danger.  Vague uneasiness becomes alarm and the drive to act to save the good.

Ecological Intelligence

Under severe selection pressure, humans were forced to make an evolutionary leap, outstripping the rest of Nature's ability to coevolve to cope with it.  The human species' mental evolution continues to leap forward, forcing a decisive reaction by the Biosphere, with an unpredictable outcome for both humans and Earth.  The problem with humans is that they don't care about the survival of other species unless their immediate survival would be threatened-- a fatal flaw in human mentality, insuring our eventual extinction.  The only possibility for human survival is for those with greater ecological-intelligence to differentiate from and dominate the less intelligent-- don't let the idiots win.

Eco-pax Neotype

The ecology symbol is the neotype of the undifferentiated Self-archetype, the new idea-image imprinting its transformative pattern on the matrix of the human psyche, to encompass it within its shaping influence.  It is a simple integrating mythic mandala, a strange eco-attractor inexorably drawing the tragic instinctual drives of the human species into a complex refluxive system, a benign looping knotwork of ecological equilibrium that tames destructive human nature finally to a strong enduring equilibrium state of sane eco-pax.

The Dragon Archetype

The Dragon archetype of the ecological Unconscious represents Eco-Self.  He is the Totem of Life-on-Earth, who holds the ancient ecological wisdom, who drives one to inform this wisdom with modern ecological knowledge and to devote oneself to saving Life on Earth.

"Who Am I!"

In a world now frittered to bits, sometimes the mind intrudes on the flux of ephemera and demands, "Who am I!  WHO AM I!"

We have lost identity-- selfhood-- eroded by the intense but shallow audio-visual chaos we inhabit. But the mind will not be denied.  It demands that you find your self, your true identity, who you are-- you must search for it, beneath the insubstantial surface, and go deep to find it, because your core-identity is your alter-ego-- mythic, mystical, intuitive, introverted, authentic, in touch with the Daimonic-- Nature-and-God-- by way of your inner daimon.  Only your inner daimon can give you back your lost identity, your soul, your character, your meaning, your purpose.  And he is THOU, intent on you, an emanation of God, the Self.  Only God can return you your soul, because he is I AM, from whom comes who you are.

Ragnarok

Searuvel's cold, calculating, coercive intellect erodes the Soul, drives him into the Underworld, and the technological monsters Searuvel has created and released overwhelm the World, corrupting and weakening the upholding gods of civilization, devastating Nature.

But in the Underworld, the stress of crisis forces Soul, in the Cauldron of Making, to flash-evolve to a higher level of power and complexity as integral Eco-Self of the Menning.  And thus Wyrd is turned.

He returns guised as Drygand to battle Searuvel in shamanic contention.  Searuvel has eroded the foundation of his own power by devastating the Earth and Man, and the remnant of mankind remaining, led by Drygand Eco-Self, throws him over, stopping his Dilgoth.  And now Searuvel, Evil Machine, is put in his proper place, driven underground and contained there, never to rise again.

And Drygand Eco-Self the Soul, the Good, presides as Wise Guide to his Mennings, the godly tribe of the children of Men.

And the World starts to recover, begins even to flourish again, re-making, re-making and changing.

Searuvel= the Evil Machine.
Menning= ecological culture-civilization.
Drygand= were-serpent chimaera.
Dilgoth= the current extinction event.

Three Bits

The prodigal is received back by the Host upon presentation of the broken-off half of the token of Ecology.  The token, then mended, seals the covenant of Man and God in a Symbol of wholeness which Man is duty-bound to honor, aided by the Drygand's Lode, in making and keeping the Menning of the emergent fullness of Eco-Self.

Man plays God, and in compensation God plays Man, and Drygand God-man is the synthetic result-- transcendent Good including but subordinating evil.  And menning is Man-god, his human counterpart.  The ultimate crisis of human evil demands this transcendent synthesis, for the survival of all Life.

In the mythic primeval dream-time, transcendent Good could prevail: primal goodness, rightness, oneness, that was a trance which kept us within mete bounds.

Menning= ecological culture-civilization.
menning= a citizen of the Menning.

The Apotropaic Drygand

The ancient Romans were given to wearing a phallic amulet to protect them from the 'evil eye', a look of baleful effect if it caught one's eye.  To their mind, the phallus preempted this malevolent glare, as it had the power to compel attention, thus depotentiating it before it could do harm.

In like wise, the Drygand, the chthonic phallic serpent, neutralizes the pitiless beam of the Searuvel, the evil machine, whose great artificial cyclops-eye hypnotizes with the fatal fascination of technological power.  For even a work of artifice cannot resist the Drygand's rapt snake-stare, the erotic undulations of his lower snake-half, and the shocking counter-rational apparition of this were-snake chimaera.

The wild and fearsome Drygand is our one sure defense against the enslaving allure of ever more advanced and powerful technological simulacra for what is natural, animal, and human in our dear Biosphere-sanctuary.  For once we have been imprinted with the awe-ful sight of this monstrous creature, we are forever immune to the chill glare of the Searuvel.

Pragmatic Deep Ecology

Mystics may experience God, but still not know what he thinks and wants of them.  On the other hand, with the Self, the ego-mind is part of it and so instead of having God tell us what he thinks and wants of us (which can happen in dream and trance, though usually in cryptic symbolic form), we must work out, ourselves, as best we can, what he must think and want of us. God is the sort of God who must exist, to rescue us from ourselves, and Nature from us.  If we had no such God at hand, we would have to invent him (Voltaire), figure out what kind of God he must be, what is needed.  And then we must accept, 'choose to believe', the best model of him we can surmise and the essential "over-beliefs" that accompany it.  And then we must 'as-if' this God into being in our minds, hoping that this effort is rewarded with a reply, help from 'the other side', having tried to open ourselves to his influence, his 'invasions'.  And in return for his help, we must strive to fulfill his demands of us. And so, Selfhood emerges in the interaction, and man and Nature may yet be saved.

The Self encompasses both ego and Unconscious(/Nature/God)-- no Self, then, without the involvement of both (i.e., no detached ego), because the Self is Unconscious/Nature/God become self-aware in ego-consciousness.  So we must rely on thought plus intuitive knowledge, creative 'genius', supplied by the Unconscious, in working out the mind of God.  A mystic may have absolute beliefs due to or affirmed by his experiences of the sacred, but those less gifted must settle for a pragmatic belief, which actually might be prompted by God though we remain unaware of it, as in the monist worldview of Deep Ecology ego-mind and Eco-mind are a continuum, so what is of me and what is of God?  It may not much matter which, if the resulting behavior is the same: acting to save the Biosphere and ourselves. 

Concept

The experience of the One is like a white page, expectant.  A symbol appears on it, of the Oneness of the Bios, all living things, and this is Ecology.  Within this symbol, a pattern forms of all life connected, a pattern self-consistent and coherent.

The Symbol sits at the center of one's being, coordinating one's character in accordance, and one is then one with the One, the Bios, the microcosm then harmonized with the Macrocosm.
